Mills & Mills Medical Group offers a professional and comprehensive service for clients undergoing a breast enlargement procedure. You may have read about the procedure elsewhere under other terms, such as breast augmentation.
Before the Procedure
It is essential that you have a private, professional consultation with a Mills & Mills Surgeon before you proceed with your breast enlargement. At Mills & Mills Medical Group we believe that all advice should be free. That’s why we offer a free private consultation with our surgeons without any obligation.
We also offer a meeting with one of our friendly patient co-ordinators who are on hand to give you information on other aspects of your procedure, such as for example, the cost of the procedure, availability in our hospital, as well as different ways of paying for your procedure such as through a cosmetic surgery loan. Our co-ordinators are not there to give clinical advice, only our surgeon can do that, but they are there as a continual support throughout your care with Mills & Mills.
Before you attend for your consultation try and write down all the questions that you would like to ask our surgeon regarding breast augmentations. You may forget when you are there. It’s also a good idea to bring someone along with you for support, of course, if you want to keep the procedure totally confidential, that’s fine too.
Consultations for breast augmentations are easy to arrange and are held throughout Spain.
The Consultation
Everything starts with the consultation with your Surgeon. This gives you the opportunity to discuss everything with him or her in complete confidence and in your own time. It is important that you are never rushed in a consultation. Th most importsnt thing to us is that you go away with a positive impression and with the feeling that all of your questions have been answered fully and , hopefully, with a feeling of excitement about the prospect of great looking breasts.
Our surgeons will want to establish exactly what you are looking for in terms of the procedure. For example, what size would you like to be when the procedure is done?, what shape are you looking for ?. Do you want a full , bigger breast look, or something a little more subtle? Your Surgeon will listen intently so that a plan can be made that gives you exactly what you wany within the limits of surgery.
Most clients have do tend to have a fairly clear idea of what they are looking for. In discussion with your surgeon you can understand and discuss the factors influence size. Following examination, our surgeon will be able to give you some clear indication as to the result. A medical history will be taken to help establish your suitability for the procedure. Our surgeon will cover all aspects of the breast enlargement procedure including, the benefits and risks as well as what to expect afterwards in terms of the recovery period.
Your patient co-ordinator will then complete any other details such as confirming the cost and advising you of available dates for your procedure.
So, now you have had your consultation and you have made the decision to proced, what happens next? Well, the next step is a short pre operative screening test to make sure that you are fit and well for your breast enlargement.
Pre-Operative Screening
We need to ensure that you are well enough to undertake breast enlargement. Together with your medical history, it will be necessary to have some tests before the procedure. These are usually a blood test, perhaps an E.C.G and chest x-ray or in some cases a mammogram. It is important that you are properly prepared. Your patient co-ordinator will make all these arrangements for you.
Basic pre operative screening is included free of charge. If you require additional tests these are charged extra.
The Procedure
Breast augmentation is performed under general anaesthetic, which means you are asleep throughout the procedure. It takes between one and one and a half hours to complete. Breast implants can be inserted around the underside of the nipple (periareolar) through the armpit (axillary) or through the crease-line under the breast itself (often referred to as ‘under the arm breast augmentation surgery’). Your surgeon will have discussed this with you at length in the consultation. Your personal preference is naturally given careful consideration. When placing the implant the surgeon needs to consider the best position to give you the optimum result. Some Patients have a clear idea of where they would like the incision to be. It is important to be comfortable about the entry point of the implants. In Spain, many women to have them inserted around the areola or through the armpit. They can be placed in front of the pectoral muscle where there is excessive skin that needs to be filled, this usually the case if you have breast fed for example. Insertion behind the muscle may be preferred if there is no excessive skin to fill. The aim will be to give you a natural looking result that compliments your overall shape.
When your procedure is completed you will be taken to the recovery area until you are ready to return to your private room. Usually you will remain in hospital overnight and be dischared sometime on the following day.
Your Breast Implants
Our breast implants are from the world renowned providers, Allergan. These implants are internationally recognised as being of the highest quality. We always have a range of sizes and profiles available so can be assured that we have exactly the right size shape and profile for you.
Ask about our guarantee programme in relation to your breast implants.
Our most common implant is the standard, round, cohesive gel, silicone implant. This implant is available in a variety of sizes with low, medium or high profile, depending on the look that you want.
Cohesive gel implants are often labeled ‘jelly baby implants’ – this is because they have a thick gel consistency, not a liquid akin to water. The shell of cohesive gel implants are tough, yet give a completely natural look and feel. There are far less problems with rippling with these implants, unlike the implants of years ago.
We are also able to offer a range of anatomical implants from the world’s leading manufacturers. We are especially good value in terms of these implants, where our prices are considerably lower than the UK. Certain breast connditions require anatomical implants to deliver good results. Your Surgeon will explain this and cover all of the implant opions with you at consultation.
Anatomical implants can give a very natural shape to the breast. These implants have more volume at the bottom making them project in a conical fashion. More and more women are seeking anatomical implants and we have noticed a rise in demand for them over the past two years.
Lastly, we now offer Polyurethane coated implants. These are filled with silicone gel but it is said that there is a significantly lower risk of capsular contracture (breast hardening) with these implants. They will be of particular interest to women who have experienced capsular contracture and want to have a re-augmentation with a dramatically lower risk of the same thing happening again. The shell has a polyurethane coating and is available in standard or teardrop shaped implants. Again, we have a large range of sizes to match exactly what you are looking for. These are more expensive than standard implants but we are getting more and more enquiries for these.
After the Procedure
You may be asked to wear a good support bra after your breast augmentation surgery and it’s useful to bring one with you just in case. Under-wired bras are not a good idea at first and it’s best to avoid these for at least six weeks.
Your sutures may be dissolving or may need to be removed. You will be advised about this before you leave our hospital. It is important that you avoid any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for six to eight weeks after breast enlargement.
It’s likely that your breasts will feel hard and swollen just afterwards. This is quite common and they will settle over the following weeks.
Appointments will be made for you to be seen by your surgeon following the procedure. This is important so that we can follow your progress afterwards.
We have many clients to travel between Spain and the UK. As we have a network of consultation centres in the United Kingdon and Ireland, you can still carry on with your aftercare check ups with us when you are in the UK. This is a very important point worth noting. Many of our competitors on the coast are unable to offer follow up care back in the UK in the event that you had to return home for any length of time.
