Hair Restoration Surgery in Spain

More than 95% of hair loss is caused by Androgenetic Alopecia, resulting from genetic and hormonal factors. This type of hair loss is very easy to recognize, especially in men. The hair thins and in many cases leads to baldness in the area on the top of the head. The hair at the back and sides of the head however, is retained. In this form of hair loss hair that is normally shed on a daily basis is replaced by thinner hair, until eventually the hair is not replaced at all. If you have a predispositon to this form of hair loss, you will start to lose your hair at some stage. We cannot tell for sure how much hair you will lose, but if hair loss is verty prevalernt in the family, it is likely that you will follow the family trend.

Myths about Hair Loss

Contrary to what some people believe, it is NOT caused by stress, dandruff, poor circulation or malnutrition. Neither is it caused by washing your hair too much.

Another form of hair loss is Alopecia Areata. This is a very striking form of hair loss which does not generally follow the pattern of Androgenetic Alopecia. Hair is lost in patches which can sometimes lead to total loss of hair on the head. In severe cases the hair on the body can be also effected. There is evidence that stress and other psychological factors can trigger this disease. In many cases the hair grows back of its own accord. In some cases it does not.

Other causes of hair loss include a thinning experienced by women after having a baby. Usually the hair does thicken again in the months that follow the birth. A high fever and hemorrhages can also cause hair loss. Read more about Female Hair Loss below.

What is Micro Hair Transplantation?

Micro hair transplantation (micro hair grafting) is the only method which guarantees to restore the lost or thinning hair on the top of your head. It is a revolutionary procedure which has taken the hair business by storm. Why? Because the results are completely natural unlike those of years ago where transplanted hairs resembled those of a doll. This procedure is light years ahead.

The procedure is painstaking for the Surgeon as it involves the transplantation of tiny follicles of hair, one by one. The hair is taken from the back and sides of your head; men are ‘genetically programmed’ to retain this hair. Our team of highly skilled professionals work to produce suitable follicles, dissected under microscope and transplanted into your thinning or balding area.

So advanced is our technique that SINGLE HAIRS can now be transplanted into the tell tale hairline. This is revolutionary and gives the best possible result anywhere in the world. This is really where medicine and art get together. Our goal will be to create a natural hair line once more to try and recreate what you had before.

Remember that the hair we transplant is your own. Therefore, the hair will not reject. It will grow at just the same rate as it did before and the same colour. The difference is that this hair will not fall out.

You will be able to have your hair cut, dyed etc. just as before and wear it in any style you choose… and for the rest of your life.

So How is it Done and How Long Does it Take?

The procedure will take about three to four hours. It is not painful and you can listen to music or watch TV whilst it is being done. It is performed by a highly trained medical Doctor with a dedicated interest in this field. He is assisted by specially trained Nurses who assist him in the preparation of your micro hair grafts. The region where the hair is taken from is the back and sides of the head and is often referred to as the ‘donor site’. The area in which the hair is transplanted is known as the ‘recipient site’.

This amazing procedure is performed without the need for a general anaesthetic and there is no need to stay overnight in hospital.

You will be back to normal activities a day or two after the procedure. This technique is not as invasive as the old ‘punch graft’ procedure, therefore recovery is much swifter. We suggest that you do not return to strong physical exercise for two weeks.

When Will I See My Hair Growing Back?

You will begin to see your hair growing again between 6 and 26 weeks from the date of your procedure. Month by month you will see your hair getting longer and longer until you will want to have a hair cut! It will also grow exactly as it did at the back of your head in terms of colour and texture. Some clients return for further procedures depending on how much hair they would like transplanted, and we can ‘infill’ previous micro transplants to create an even thicker appearance. We also have experience in creating a natural look to old style hair transplants where the results are noticeable.

FEMALE HAIR LOSS

It is a sad fact that many women experience the distress and misery caused by hair loss. It is important that hair loss in a women is properly investigated as it is more complex than male hereditary hair loss. It is suggested that 25% of white females aged between 35 and 45 and 35% to 40% of females at age 50 present with female androgenetic alopecia. Female alopecia is caused by an androgentic predisposition of the hair follicle with normal levels or with mild or severe androgen level growth. This type of hair loss is characterized by a diffuse thinning all over the head, unlike the typical male patterned baldness. The hair becomes thinner and shorter resulting in the scalp becoming visible through the hair.

Menopause can also be a contributor to hair loss in women. 20% of women suffer from hair loss as a result of a decrease in female hormones. The testosterone already present at normal levels has a trigger effect on the hair loss. This can have a devastating effect on women resulting in depression and low self esteem, after all, a woman’s hair is her crowning glory.

It is important to find out the underlying cause of your hair loss before we can begin to treat. Our Doctors will work to establish why you are losing your hair and then suggest an appropriate treatment to restore not only your hair but your self confidence once again.
