Nose Reshaping
This is a very common facial cosmetic surgery procedure. Often these procedures are referred to as a “nose job”. There are three procedures usually performed in correcting the appearance of the nose.
Sometimes just the tip of the nose requires reshaping, for example when the tip is bulbous. The most common nose reshaping is known as a standard Rhinoplasty. Here the bridge of the nose is corrected together with the tip. A more complicated procedure called a septorhinoplasty. This is where all elements can be performed as well as repair or alteration to the nasal septum. If your nose is not straight or is just too big for your face, you will be amazed at the difference a nose job can make. It can change the face dramatically. Most of our Patients tell us how they used to shy away from photos before they had their rhinoplasty, especially if it meant having the photo taken in profile. Agood rhinoplasty will havw taken into account the overall shape of your face so that the finished result puts everything back into proportion.
BEFORE THE PROCEDURE
It is essential that you get sound professional advice before you go ahead with a nose reshaping procedure. At Mills & Mills Medical Group we believe that all advice should be free. That’s why we offer a free private consultation with our surgeons without any obligation.
We also offer a meeting with one of our friendly patient co-ordinators who are on hand to give you information on other aspects of your procedure, such as for example, the cost of the procedure, availability in our hospital, as well as different ways of paying for your procedure such as through a cosmetic surgery loan. Our co-ordinators are not there to give clinical advice, only our surgeon can do that, but they are there as a continual support throughout your care with Mills & Mills.
Before you attend for your consultation try and write down all the questions that you would like to ask our surgeon. You may forget when you are there. It’s also a good idea to bring someone along with you for support, of course, if you want to keep the procedure totally confidential, that’s fine too.
Consultations about ‘nose jobs’ are easy to arrange and are held throughout Spain.
THE CONSULTATION
Your consultation for nose reshaping will typically last between half an hour and one hour. You will have the opportunity to ask all of your questions directly to the surgeon. He will examine you and make his recommendations. He will explain the benefits of nose reshaping and the risks too.
Following your consultation with the surgeon, your patient co-ordinator will be able to confirm the cost and make all arrangements for you if you decide to proceed.
It is important at a nose rehaping consultation that you get the message across as to what exactly you do not like about your nose. Your Surgeon is going to want to hear from you about the changes that you would like to see and the result that you are hoping for.
PRE-OPERATIVE SCREENING
Before your procedure it may be necessary to have some tests carried out. For example, blood tests. Your surgeon will advise you what tests are required. Your patient co-ordinator will arrange these for you. It is important that we know you are fit and well for the procedure.
THE PROCEDURE
A rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) is always performed under a general anaesthetic which means that you are asleep throughout the procedure. Very occasionally, if just the very tip of your nose requires reshaping, it may be possible to perform your procedure under local anaesthetic, perhaps with some sedation. Your surgeon will discuss this with you at consultation. Nose reshaping takes the surgeon between one and two hours to complete depending on the complexity of the procedure.
The oepration itself takes about one hour, depending on the complexity of the procedure. In most rhinoplasty procedures the work is done from within the nostrils, leaving our Patients wondering how on earth we made the changes !
AFTER THE PROCEDURE
You will remain in hospital overnight unless previously advised otherwise. In hospital you will have a small dressing across/underneath the nose. When you are discharged you will have a splint across the nose to afford protection.
You can expect some bruising and swelling of the eyes and upper cheeks. This tends to last about ten to fourteen days. You may feel a bit blocked up as though you have a cold and perhaps a sore throat.
It takes some months to see the complete effects of your nose reshaping but there is usually a noticeable change after the initial bruising and swelling have settled. Most Patients are able to see the dramatic change after only a week, or as soon as the splint is removed.
You will need to take off seven to fourteen days from work. This will allow enough time for the bruising to settle down and the initial healing to take place,
